The Man. The Writer. The Speaker. The Farmer.

The man
Win Borden has had a roller coaster career.  He is an Eagle Scout and a
federal convict.  After receiving his BA, MA, and JD degrees he was elected
to the Minnesota State Senate three times; served as president of the
Minnesota Chamber of Commerce for more than a decade; and practiced law
for more than thirty years.  In his legal career he represented General
Electric, The Hertz Company, and other Fortune 500 companies as well as
consumer advocacy groups.  He spent time in federal prison after pleading
guilty to misdemeanor tax charges.  Now he is coming back as a full time
farmer and  writer.

The writer…
Borden has done some serious writing, but calls his new book, Rumination:
Memories and Tales from a Furrowed Mind, his first “bucket of syrup.”  The
book is farm nostalgia from the Brainerd Lakes Area, with flashbacks and
looks forward.  It encourages people to live in today with hope and
optimism.  His editor calls the writing “highly personal, poignant, and
optimistic…for those who are not products of the farm life, the book
provides warm insights and lessons for life.” Ruminations can be purchased
at many book stores or by writing Win@bordenfarmmarket.com.  Simply
provide your name and address and the number of copies you wanted and
your order will be mailed within 48 hours along with an invoice to cover the
cost of the book, sales tax, and postage in the amount of $13.00.

Borden is nearly finished with a second book called, Cancel My Funeral. I’m
Staying: A guide to growing older and loving it. Borden has had an interest
in aging issues since he served on the Governor’s Council on Aging and as
a delegate to the White House Conference on Aging in 1966. It is an advice
book designed to inspire seniors to live everyday to the fullest.  It will be in
books stores during the summer of 2008.

The author’s earlier writing was serious and focused on public policy,
politics, and the need for change.  His writings have appeared in the
Minneapolis StarTribune, the St. Paul Pioneer Press and in daily and weekly
newspapers all across Minnesota.  In addition Vital Speeches,  The ASAE
Journal, the National Association of Manufacturers,  the U.S. Chamber of
Commerce and other trade and professional associations have published
his work.

The speaker…
Borden has spoken to literally thousands of audiences over the years.  He
has shared the podium with Henry Kissinger, Sam Donaldson and a host of
other notables. His speeches have been quoted by Ed McMahon in his
book, The Art of public Speaking and in William Safire’s book, Leadership.
For than five years he narrated a daily radio program heard on more than 80
Minnesota radio stations. The publicist for the program said, “Borden will
sometimes make you laugh and sometimes make you mad, but he will always
make you think.” He hosted a weekly cable TV program carried by TV
stations in the Twin cities where guests included Governors Carlson and
Ventura as well as Don Shelby from WCCO news for in depth discussions of
the day.    He is available for speaking engagements year round in the
Brainerd Lakes area and in the winter anywhere.  His main speech is an
inspirational and humorous talk about “Lessons from the Road of Life.”
Other speeches are tailored to the audience, but generally focus on public
policy and include the best ways to advocate changes to politicians, how
citizens can combat global warming, and how to survive in the flat world
where the best jobs are exported to foreign countries.  The speeches are
filled not only with a frank assessment of the challenges, but optimism as
well as specific ways to meet the challenges and it is done with self effacing
humor.  To contact him for speaking engagements email
